Change is a part of life, regardless of who you are, so if you’re resistant to change you might definitely have a challenge on your hands.

Fortunately, learning to overcome resistance to change doesn’t have to be difficult. Even if you’re stubborn or feel like you’re stuck in a rut, you can learn to change without it being uncomfortable for you.

In fact, not wanting to accept change is more common and more natural than you think, but it doesn’t have to remain that way.

How to Overcome Being Resistant to Change: The Secrets of Change in Life?

When events happen to us, our bodies and minds record those things so that they’re familiar to us the next time they happen. This is part of the reason why change is so hard for most people.

Our bodies are much “happier” with something that’s familiar to us as opposed to something new. So, if you’re resistant to change, welcome to the club because it’s normal to do this.

That being said, there are still things you can do to increase your resistance to change, and most people believe it centers on one thing: disconnecting from the real world occasionally and spending time alone in your thoughts so you can handle when a change in your life occurs at a later date. This seems to be extremely effective, and one good way you can do this is through meditation.

As far as meditation goes, you don’t have to rush out and buy books or tapes to teach you how to do this.

Simply get into a relaxed position, put on some soft music, close your eyes, and spend 10-15 minutes practicing your deep breathing, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Concentrate on your breathing and clear your mind, and the rest is easy.

Once your body feels like it’s asleep but your mind feels awake, you’ll know you’ve accomplished your mission. Never think about any problems you’re having while you meditate.

Instead, concentrate on keeping a clear mind and relaxed body, and gradually increase the amount of time that you meditate. Even if you start off with just five minutes of meditation, it’s a good start.

Four Ways to Make Change a Little Easier

As you meditate and concentrate on ways you can adapt to change a little more easily, there are four things you can concentrate on, including:

1. Seek More Than Just Physical Changes

When you’re trying to adapt to the changes that are always going to happen, think of it as both a physical and emotional process.

When change happens, many people tend to think of it as physical only, especially if the change involved is a new car, a new house, or something similar. But even when it’s a physical change you’re experiencing, always think of it as an emotional change as well.

When you have the mindset that all changes are both physical and emotional, you’ll be able to adapt to those changes more easily and a lot faster. This makes your next change a lot easier on you.

2. Visualize Your Future Self on a Regular Basis

Everyone has goals for the future but not always plans that help them get there. If you have the right mindset you can visualize yourself achieving those goals, which makes them much easier to accomplish.

If you wish to live in a better neighborhood, picture yourself living in that neighborhood because the more you envision this occurrence, the more likely it is to happen.

It all boils down to attitude. We can prepare for both changes we want to happen and unexpected changes if we have the right attitude. Attitude helps us accomplish at least most of the things we want to do in life.

3. Concentrate on Personal Growth, Not Change

If you concentrate only on change, it might be more difficult to accept change when it happens. If you look at it as a way to grow emotionally or spiritually as well as a way to change, it can be much easier on you. Ideally, people will spend the rest of their lives growing on a personal level, and this is especially important if you’re looking for a way to adapt to change a little better.

If you wish to make changes, try to make changes out of the desire to grow on a personal level. You should never make a change out of fear because it likely won’t be nearly as easy or as effective.

4. Keep in Mind That Chaos Is Always a Part of Change

One of the main reasons a lot of people have problems with change is that change usually comes with a lot of chaos, and most people are not prepared for that because they don’t realize it’s going to happen.

If you can accept the chaos, then the change is much easier on you, but if not, the chaos will make you so crazy that you simply can’t handle the change.

If you expect that change is always accompanied by chaos or at least a little turmoil, it’s a lot easier to handle each time it comes your way.

Conclusion

Regardless of who you are, change can be hard. If you resist any type of change in your life, it becomes a little more difficult.

The thing is, there are things you can do to make adapting to the changes you experience a little easier, and they include regular meditation and a change in attitude.
